Bay Families Page 1Bay Families

During 2015 - 2016 Bay Families (formerly Family Connect) has continued to strive to identify and address needs and concerns of families in the community with a strong focus on improving the wellbeing and safety of children, young people and their families and preventing children entering the Child Protection system. Our service is state government funded by the Department of Communities and we are grateful to be funded until June 2018.

The family support service assists vulnerable and disadvantaged families struggling to parent children from unborn to 18 years with focus on early intervention for children less than 12 years. We support families using a strength based practice framework, assisting the client to identify their goals through regular contact and building rapport. Referrals are received by a variety of services including health, education, community services and individuals. Volunteer parent aides and the Family Support worker attend home visits weekly or as necessary to provide ongoing social and emotional support in Hervey Bay and surrounds for approximately 6-12 months. Staff  have worked hard to ensure positive outcomes for clients and community. The service continues to connect to the sector through the Child and Family Alliance, Drug and Alcohol Alliance, Professional Development and Networking days, Conversations Creating Change, Interagency meetings and promoting the service by attending community events including the Under 8's day, DV White Ribbon day, Health Expos, Family fun day, Naidoc week, Mental Health week, Child Protection and Children’s week.

Throughout the year we have been supported by the management and staff of the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre and the Committee. The ongoing encouragement and offers of support have helped us to stay focused and positive especially during the challenging times.
